The Bus and Truck driver sector agreement will now include Ship Masters and Deckhands.
The government had previously announced that bus and truck drivers would have a limited-time pathway to residency through a sector agreement in December 2022.
Recently, it has been confirmed that individuals working in roles under the ANZSCO code 231213 for Ship's Master/Skipper, and 899211 for Deck Hand, will also be included in this sector agreement with a time-limited pathway to residency.
Skippers must be paid the market rate and deckhands who are migrant workers must be paid at least the median wage to qualify for this sector agreement.
However, the details of the sector agreement for bus, truck, skipper, and deckhand roles are still being developed, and full information is expected to be announced soon, with the implementation to commence from late May.
